Message from our Executive Director - April 24

Hello everyone,

For the next few weeks the Weekly Update will be written by members of The Arc of Plymouth and Upper Cape Cod’s executive leadership team. I feel it’s important that you receive updates and information from the perspective of some of our team members as well as myself, so I’ve invited each one of them to share their thoughts with you as well. My hope is that you’ll gain a wider understanding of the work being done by the people within our organization during this time.

As always, we thank you for your continued support and we wish you good health and high spirits!

Mary

Hello everyone,

As an organization whose mission is rooted in human connection, the COVID-19 situation resulted in The Arc of Plymouth and Upper Cape Cod becoming creative and increasingly thoughtful about how we could continue supporting people with disabilities and their families. You’d expect this unique challenge to harbor an environment of anxiety and stress, but instead, there’s a true sense of camaraderie and kindness pulsing throughout our organization that makes me thankful that I work for The Arc.

In my specific role, communicating information to both staff members and people that we serve has never been more critical - and I never find myself without resources to share, thanks to my colleagues. Everyone has the best interest of the people we serve in their hearts right now, and that becomes more clear with each Zoom meeting or virtual class we host. From newsletters to social media posts, from website content to video projects, the response to the information we are collecting and sharing has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Arc is truly an organization that cares not only about the people we directly support, but also community. I have the pleasure of supporting outreach efforts that benefit community partners and provide aid to help with issues such as food insecurity during a time when buying groceries is already challenging enough.

I’m also incredibly grateful to work for an organization that values its employees during this time. Being able to work remotely has meant a steady paycheck for our team during a time when millions of people are without income or filing for unemployment.

These past few weeks have not been easy for anyone and it’s easy to become overwhelmed with stress or negativity, but there are positive things happening too. As Mr. Rogers said, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

I’m proud to work for an organization of helpers.

Stay well,
Beth Cincotta
